Our technology was developed at Caltech, deployed with research partners like NASA, proven-out with customers like Netflix and Children’s Hospital, and now scaling to fleets, corporations, and municipalities nationwide.  

The Hardware Products team is responsible for driving the strategy, development, and integration of our hardware solutions, including EV charging hardware, photovoltaic systems, battery storage equipment and edge computing.  As the Sr. Product Manager, Hardware Products, you will be responsible for our edge computing hardware and ancillary equipment like smart meters, LTE/5G/WiFi communication devices, and other critical components. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring seamless integration between hardware and software to provide a cohesive, high-performing, and reliable experience for our customers. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, sales, marketing, and operations teams to define and deliver innovative hardware solutions that align with PowerFlex's mission. 

Location
This role will be a hybrid position based out of our Mountain View, CA Office and the selected candidate will be expected to be in-person 3 days a week. We will only be able to consider applicants who are local to Mountain View, CA or are willing to relocate. 

Responsibilities
You will be responsible for defining and executing on a product vision, strategy, and roadmap that brings diverse hardware elements into a cohesive solution that meets market needs.  Specifically, you will: 

  • Lead the product strategy and roadmap for IoT, compute, and other related hardware components. 
  • Drive hardware integration efforts, ensuring seamless interoperability between different hardware elements and the software ecosystem to deliver a cohesive product experience. 
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineering teams, supply chain, and manufacturing partners to oversee the design, development, testing, and delivery of high-quality hardware products. 
  • Define product requirements and specifications for hardware components, including industrial PCs, LTE/5G/WiFi communication devices, sensors, and control systems, ensuring alignment with industry standards and customer needs. 
  • Manage the full product lifecycle for hardware products, from concept to launch and beyond, including post-launch analysis, iteration, and continuous improvement. 
  • Develop go-to-market strategies and collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer support teams to ensure successful product launches and adoption. 
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify new opportunities, validate product-market fit, and prioritize features that drive customer value and competitive differentiation. 
  • Work closely with software product managers to ensure integrated product development and the seamless operation of hardware-software solutions. 
  • Drive the integration of communication technologies, such as LTE, 5G, and WiFi, into hardware products to enable reliable connectivity and remote monitoring. 
  • Collaborate with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure all hardware products meet local, national, and international standards for safety, performance, and interoperability. 
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and industry partners, to understand market trends and drive product innovation. 
  • Contribute to the financial success of the hardware product line, including pricing strategy, and cost management, ensuring profitability while delivering value to customers. 
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, coordinating efforts across engineering, operations, and other departments to ensure timely delivery of high-quality hardware products. 
  • Advocate for continuous improvement in the hardware product management process, leveraging data-driven insights to optimize product development, reduce time to market, and increase customer satisfaction. 

Qualifications
Education/Experience

  • 3+ years' experience as a hardware product manager 
  • Strong technical background in hardware design and development, with a deep understanding of hardware-software integration and communications equipment (LTE, 5g, WiFi) 
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams, including hardware engineering, software development, supply chain, and manufacturing partners. 
  • The ability to define and prioritize product requirements, specifications, and features based on customer needs, market trends, and business objectives. 
  • Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies, working closely with sales, marketing, and customer support teams to drive adoption and success. 
  • Experience with EV charging hardware, photovoltaic systems or battery storage products. 
  • Experience with commercial or industrial hardware products. 
  • Experience with energy management systems. 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Solid understanding of the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to launch and post-launch support, with a strong track record of bringing successful hardware products to market. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making and a strong attention to detail. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • The ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams, driving alignment, accountability, and results across diverse groups. 
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement in hardware product management. 
  • A strong interest in renewable energy. 
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and certifications relevant to EV charging, photovoltaic systems, battery storage, and communication equipment. 

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $140,000 - $170,000 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.

Physical Requirements  
Remaining in a seated position. Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking. 

Working Conditions 
Approximately 80% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe etc.), telephones, and general office equipment.  Possibly 20% of the time is spent traveling to conferences or meetings or field traveling to project sites.
