The Business Development Manager’s priority is to initiate, develop and close solar & storage projects, offer multi- technology solutions with our PowerFlex X energy management platform and our patented EV charging for Fortune 500 and large private enterprise customers in North America. This role will manage strategic client relationships with insightful solar consultation and customer servicing throughout the origination and project development process. 

The Business Development Manager will build long-standing relationships resulting in repeat business, lead internal project teams, and be supported by the marketing, project development, analytics, engineering, and construction teams at PowerFlex to provide our enterprise customers with completely turnkey and consultative services.

This role is open to be 100% remote or a hybrid role out of one of our offices (Mountain View, CA, San Diego, CA or New York, NY.) 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain new and existing relationships with corporate executives, as well as energy/facility/property managers, leading to solar and storage project exploration and execution
  • Introduce our growing EV charging and Energy Management Software solutions as a part of the PowerFlex solution suite
  • Originate new accounts and opportunities through (but not limited to) cold calling, email campaigns, targeted marketing, networking and participating in trade shows and conferences 
  • Work closely with clients to understand and manage substantive issues around financial, legal, energy, technical and tax aspects of solar and storage projects 
  • Provide customers with strategic project structuring guidance, market insight & strategy and consultation on portfolio projects 
  • Manage a robust pipeline of projects through origination and development stages of the sales cycle maintaining consistent volume and balance across project types, markets, customer types and project sizes 
  • Monitor market conditions across core markets by participating in industry policy groups, maintaining relationships with policy stakeholders and staying abreast of market changes & news; utilize internal tools and resources to stay informed on other national solar markets 
  • Lead RFP responses in close-coordination with internal support teams 
  • Work with project development, financing and legal teams to negotiate and close project contracts 
  • Develop, build and manage internal and external networks/relationships with strategic channel partners 
  • Foster an environment of cohesive teamwork that delivers best-in-class service and superior results to clients 
  • Track all sales activities in Salesforce 

Qualifications
Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or related field or equivalent work experience 
  • 3+ years' of experience in solar/renewable energy industry required 
  • 5+ years' of relevant work experience in Business Development and/ or Sales 
  • Prior Experience in sales experience structuring high-value project transactions and portfolio transactions 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities 

  • A track record of commercial solar project sales with Fortune 500s 
  • Proven ability to prospect and build a solar and storage project pipeline 
  • Track-record of successfully negotiating and executing complex third-party owned project transactions 
  • Comprehensive understanding of project and structured finance 
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills 
  • Understanding of relevant solar policies, trends, utility incentives and state incentives 
  • Ability to structure complex multi-site, multi-market project portfolios 
  • Extensive Salesforce experience and ability create reports and dashboards 
  • Ability to continuously prioritize high-value tasks, opportunities, and processes to maintain project momentum 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in interdisciplinary teams while clearly communicating sales objectives and strategy 
  • Self-motivated, self-starter who can work independently when necessary 
  • Highly energetic and results-driven, with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence 
  • Executive presence, outgoing with strong communication and presentation skills 
  • Builds trust by demonstrating high ethical standards and personal integrity

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $115,000 - $192,000 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and telephone. 
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time – up to four (4) hours at a time. 
  • Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifteen (15) pounds. 
  • Travel to client sites as needed 

Working Conditions 
Ability to travel for in-person client visits, conferences and meetings as required. This will require the ability to walk sites. Primarily office working environment, but occasional field & client visits will be needed which requires standing, walking, and able to document/measure existing conditions. Otherwise, normal office environment. 

Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
